Farm Personal Property and Applications for Agricultural Tax Exemptions

Tractor's and equipment used for farming must be rendered every year between January 1st and March the 15th. After March 15th, a penalty of 10% is added to the assessment. This penalty increases to 20% after April 15th. Livestock is not taxed in Stephens County.

You may apply for an Agricultural Exemption Permit to save you from paying sales tax on items used for farming. We will be happy to submit an application to the OTC for you or you may apply on line. 4-H students may also apply for a permit.

To qualify, you must be farming for profit. This means that you should be selling livestock or products such as a crop in order to support yourself and/or family. If you are starting a new farming operation, there are ways to help get that application through. Please contact the office for additional information.
